FABIO LUISI conducts
ALESSANDRO TAVERNA piano
SAINT-SAËNS Piano Concerto No. 2
BIZET Symphony in C
Texas Instruments Classical Series
Fabio Luisi conducts the DSO in a program that features Alessandro Taverna in Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor.
The concert also features Bizet’s exuberantly youthful Symphony in C major. Penned when Bizet was only 17 years of age and never performed during his lifetime, his charming first symphony in C Major is his most popular work outside of the opera house and moved the great George Balanchine so greatly that he choreographed an entire ballet to the colorful gem.
“Luisi and, in the concerto, Italian pianist Alessandro Taverna supplied boldly contoured and finely detailed performances. In both pieces, fortissimos were reserved for truly dramatic effects; at least as impressive were the delicate pianissimo.” – Dallas Morning News
